Tips to Hide Piercings on a Job

Starting a new job is exciting, but what happens when you find out there’s a “no piercings” policy? It can be a cause for concern, especially if you’ve got some cool piercing designs that you love. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered with some tips to keep your piercings open and ways to hide them if needed.

Understanding Piercing Closing Times

First things first, let’s talk about closure times. You’re worried about your 8-hour shifts causing your piercings to close up. Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Eyebrows: Your eyebrow piercings should be safe for at least four months after healing when removed occasionally. They might get a tad smaller, and putting bars back in could be a bit tricky and uncomfortable.
  2. Nose Piercing: Nose piercings may close up faster, but you might have a bit of leeway with one year or less. Be cautious, and consider using clear plastic piercings to keep them discreet.
  3. Medusa Piercing: With only three months in, your Medusa piercing might be more prone to closing up. Clear plastic retainers could be your best friend here.
  4. Vertical Labret: Similar to your eyebrow piercing, the vertical labret should be okay for 3 to 4 months without jewellery. Clear plastic options might be the way to go.

Clear Plastic Piercings

Consider switching to clear plastic piercings or retainers during your work hours. They’re a great way to keep your piercings open without drawing too much attention. Unless someone is looking really close, it’s hard to tell the difference. Plus, they are less likely to be noticed by your employer.

Avoid Bioplast Piercings/Retainers

While clear plastic is your ally, bioplast piercings or retainers might not be the best choice. They tend to collect bacteria easily, which could lead to irritation or infection. Stick to clear plastic or other non-reactive materials for a safer experience.

Some Tips for Hiding Piercings at Work

Here are some additional tips to keep your piercings under wraps:

Bandage Brigade

Remember those elementary school soccer days with a shiny ear piercing? Well, here’s a technique straight from the playbook. If your piercing is still in the healing phase, removing it is a no-go. Grab a Q-tip, dip it in alcohol, and give your piercing a gentle clean. Apply some antibacterial ointment for added protection. Now, cover it up with a small circular bandage or cut a standard one to size.

Makeup, Conceal

Concealer and foundation are your new partners. Pick shades that match your skin tone, none of that lighter under-eye concealer business. Keep makeup away from the piercing to avoid infections. For that extra flawless look, stick a trimmed bandage on your piercing before applying makeup. Small stud to hide? Try a blister-sized bandage or even a pimple patch as a makeup canvas.

Less Stress, More Style

The septum nose ring can be flipped and tucked away, while a smiley or frenulum piercing can be discreetly stashed inside your mouth. Bangs or fringe can do wonders in hiding an eyebrow piercing.

Wear Your Hair Long

The most useful tip is stylish and gives closure to your piercings. Instead of a ponytail, leave your hair open, riding on your shoulders. This will help hide ear piercings, helix tragus rings and some cheek piercings.

Thick Clothes to the Rescue

Belly button and nipple piercings are easy to hide. There is no need for extra moves; just wear clothes with thicker material. Keep in mind nipple piercings can sometimes peek through, so pad up with a bra or some trusty pasties.

Scarves and Head Coverings

Wrap a scarf around your neck or pull your headwear low on chilly days. It might feel a bit much on a hot day, but style knows no temperature.

Wear Only the Stealthy Stem

For a low-key vibe, opt for a stud with just the stem; cut off the flashy part. Grab a wire cutter and snip, and your jewellery stays hidden, keeping those piercings intact and ready to roll.

Talk Less for Tounge Piercing

Keep that tongue piercing on by talking less. Avoid wide-mouthed chats, and you’re golden. Clear retainers or pink-coloured balls are your silent partners if you want extra invisibility. Since it’s inside your mouth, no one will even notice.

Whatever your reason for hiding that facial piercing, never forget to stay comfortable and unashamed of your style. Piercings are a form of self-expression, like clothes, tattoos, and makeup. If you find yourself constantly covering up, it might be a bummer. Consider waiting until your lifestyle allows you to embrace your personal style without consequences fully.
