Answer:
Since the
stainless steel 316 is a low carbon variety. The
jewelry is polished in order to reflect, when
polished the true 316L will turn nearly white
not a grey metal in color. So, this steel most
of the time is a non magnetic when annealed.
'316L' obtains from low carbon which never
creates a rust surface and is also immune and
tolerant to the constant salt water exposure. |

316L is used
because it is an extreme resistance to
corrosion. 316L of Austenitic Stainless Steel is
used in the form to avoid the corrosion problem
caused by welding. The meaning of "L" is that
the carbon contents of the Stainless Steel is
below 0.03%, it will reduce the sensitizations
effect, precipitation of at grain boundaries,
due to the high temperature produced by welding
operation. 316L can be re-finished by any
jeweler and will not oxidize or turn black. 316
stainless steel has a mid range level of carbon.
