Lapis Lazuli Gemstone

The original name of the stone is Lapis Lazuli, Lazurite. Its earliest name means word pencil in Spanish. Usually gifted for the 7th and the 9th year of marriage. The semi precious stone Lapis lazuli decade ago was known as “Blue Gold " treasured by the humanity for more than five thousand years ago. Now the lapis stone is used as an ornament, painting and jewelry. During the Middle Ages literature this semi precious stone was mainly linked as a "sapphire”. Lapis is one of the biblical gemstone used in Breastplate of Aaron, the High Priest, and at one time Lapis jewelry was only worn by royalty. Overall, this gemstone is considered to be a holy stone accepted by many cultures. Lapis stone played various roles in the ancient times. In the part, the Egyptians used the stone for cosmetic purposes. In the Middle East region, they considered this stone to be having a magical power. This gem was valued at the Greek, Roman, and Hebrew Scriptures time.

Lapis stone falls among the first category of the gemstone to be worn as jewelry. The archaeologist mentioned that the deep blue stone was very popular thousands of years ago among the people of Rome, Greece, Egypt, Persia, and Mesopotamia. The material of this stone belongs to the land of the two great rivers in Afghanistan. Known to be the opaque rock consists of diopside and lazurite. The uncut lapis stone is deep dark blue in color and most often had golden inclusion and whitish vein but the finest Lapis Lazuli is even blue color with little or no veining from other elements. 
 
 The Persian believed the stone is a sacred buried with the dead to protect and guide them in the afterlife where as they also said the heavens owed their blue color to a massive slab of Lapis upon which the earth rested. Today lapis lazuli is considered as a friendship and truth stone where as the blue stone encouraged harmony in a relationship.
 
 The first Lapis Lazuli was minded in Afghanistan in the province of Badakhshan more than six thousand years ago and the jewelry was found at Pre-dynastic Egyptian sites and its beads at the Neolithic burials in Mehgarh, the Caucasus and Mauritania.
