Akoya Pearls

They are rare natural pearls which were formed within the oysters and the other mollusks.


Today, Akoya sea water pearl is well known in the worldwide jewelry market. The Akoya  cultured pearls is a classic pearl. Though the Akoya pearl is fixed by the nacre but  the color of the Akoya pearl is white and black. Till date, white pearls is famous but the dark colored pearls with a metallic shine is in demand in the market.  The Akoya "white" pearl is light cream in color and also an overtone. The overtone is described when the color of the peal reflects which lies above the pearl body color. The
overtone color can be from ivory, light pink and cream.

The black Akoya pearls are dyed and the black Akoya pearl had been established in 1930's. The dark colored pearls are brought for a silver salt treatment. The result cause of the black pearl treatment is a beautiful metallic. There is a most well known black which is dark onyx black. Today, a dark pearl like blue pearl has also gained its popularity. An Akoya pearl's first cultivation developed in the early 1900's in Japan. The pearl produced is a Pinctada fucata.

The Pinctada fucata chemnitzii is commonly found in China and Japan. They come in the size of 2 - 11 millimeters. They are round in shape, and are suitable to be made as bracelets
